Digital Transformation of Bulgarian Healthcare
Healthcare continues to be among the fastest growing sectors of the economy, moreover in only few months it has proven that its role in modern societies is of a strategic sector ensuring the national security and an insurmountable foundation of all economic and social processes.
On December 11, the Digital Health and Innovations Cluster Bulgaria will organize an event dedicated to the digital transformation of healthcare and its importance for the functioning of the system. The event is implemented with the media support of Forbes Bulgaria.
The topic of the digital transformation of Bulgarian healthcare has emerged as one of the most important topics in the last months of the crisis for the whole world.
The event will discuss the technological techniques for building digital healthcare and the need for a comprehensive approach to creating a mechanism that works for all stakeholders. The role of data in the sector and why they are the most valuable healthcare capital will be explored. In the last part of the discussion we will focus on the need for new skills for medical professionals in the rapidly evolving technological environment, what are the economic dimensions of the health sector and why it continues to be among the fastest growing sectors of the economy.

Dr Alexander SimidchievNon-Invasive Diagnosis Department Head, Ministry of Interior's Medical Institute
Dr. Alexander Simidchiev has three medical specialties, but he is most passionate about pulmonology. He is the Head of the Department of Non-Invasive Diagnosis at the Ministry of the Interior’s Medical Institute, as well as part of the Pulmonology Department and the Laboratory for Functional Respiratory Testing of UB Lozenets, a member of the Bulgarian Society of Pulmonary Diseases and the European Respiratory Society, as well as a former chief respirator GlaxoSmithKline Canada. He has specialized in the Rouland Clinic in Essen, Germany and the Charite Hospital in Paris, France.
He is also the creator of the unique for the country web-based course in Digital Medicine, which he has been leading at Plovdiv Medical University for 3 years.

Dr Ivan MadjarovChairman, Bulgarian Medical Association
Dr. Ivan Madjarov was elected Chairman of the Professional Organization of the 68th Regular Reporting and Election Meeting of the Bulgarian Medical Association in June 2018.
Prior to his presidency, he was the manager of the hospital “Palmed” in Plovdiv and the chairman of the Board of the Bulgarian Hospital Association.
From 2013 to 2014 he was the director of the Regional Health Insurance Fund Plovdiv.
From 2008 to 2013 he was the manager of the hospital “Parvomay” EOOD. From 1994 to 2008 he was a resident at the Department of ENT Diseases at the Plovdiv Hospital.
Dr. Ivan Madjarov graduated from the Medical University of Plovdiv. He has a major in Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases and a Master’s Degree in Health Management. -
Dr Radoslav MangaldjievMedical Oncology Department Head, Oncological Diseases Specialized Hospital
Dr. Radoslav Mangaldzhiev is Head of the Department of Medical Oncology at the Specialized Hospital for Oncological Diseases in Sofia. He is a member of the Bulgarian Cancer Scientific Society (BCSS), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the Bulgarian Association for Chemotherapy. President of the Association of Medical Oncologists. Dr. Mangaldzhiev graduated from the Medical University in Sofia in 1996. He has a specialty of medical oncology and a specialty of dermatology and venereology.

Dr. Rosen Dimitrov is Public Affairs Manager at Novartis Bulgaria. For the last couple of years he has taken key roles in Novartis Oncology in Bulgaria and Region Europe. He has been a speaker in a couple of national and international events related to digital health, value-based healthcare and entrepreneurship in health sector. He has more than 15 years of experience in pharma industry. He is a Board Member of the Digital Health and Innovation Cluster Bulgaria. Rosen Dimitrov is a medical doctor.

Kalin DimtchevCountry Manager, Microsoft Bulgaria
Kalin is Country Manager of Microsoft Bulgaria, and Country Manager Lead for the CEE Multi-Country region which includes 24 countries. Kalin has over 15 years of management experience at both early-stage and public companies in various industries. In his previous role as a Country Leader for IBM in Bulgaria and Ukraine, recently, Kalin was responsible for country business for all IBM brands, including consulting, technology services, hardware, and software. Prior to IBM, Kalin was a deputy executive director in a regional insurance group, Euroins, being responsible for the sales and financial performance of the group.

Milena StoychevaJunior Achievement Bulgaria, CEO
Milena Stoycheva is currently CEO of JA in Bulgaria, an executive with extensive national and international experience in the area of education and training, entrepreneurship development, business skills and economic and financial literacy. Milena is a Visiting Professor for EIT Digital Master School on Innovation and Entrepreneurship; she has degrees from Bulgarian and American universities and specializations and training from UC Berkeley, Stanford, Penn State and Cornell University. She has served as a judge and mentor of the Intel Business Challenge Europe and Global team, has been part of the Intel Europe Entrepreneurship Core team and is an expert on entrepreneurship with OECD and European Commission. She is a recipient of the “Women’s Leadership Award” presented to her by the US Ambassador in Bulgaria. Milena Stoycheva is the chairperson of the Digital Health and Innovation Cluster Bulgaria.

Mira Ganova holds a PhD from UNWE in the field of organization, management and business communications. Master’s Degree in Public Relations and Health Management from MU Sofia. Her professional career began 13 years ago, during which time she worked in the fields of communications and management activities in marketing and advertising, energy, politics and healthcare. In 2017 he holds the position of Director of the Public Relations Directorate of the Bulgarian Medical Association, and since 2019 he is the Executive Director of the Digital Health and Innovation Cluster Bulgaria.

Mladen GeorgievIT Director and Co-Founder, My Synergy
Mladen Georgiev is the IT director and co-founder of MY Synergy. He has a Bachelor and Master degree in Computer Science, graduated from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and is currently a doctoral student at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Winner of the IT Manager of the Year 2019 for innovation. He has over 10 years of experience as an architect of technology process-oriented solutions in the healthcare sector. During the last 8 years he has been the leader of a number of domestic, national and international projects of public importance. It currently focuses on creating and implementing innovative approaches to digital healthcare transformation related to the application of a process-oriented approach and automation.

Prof. Blagoy MarinovVice-Rector for Research, MU-Plovdiv
Prof. Dr. Blagoy Marinov has been in the management of the Medical University of Plovdiv for more than a year. In the last few years he has participated in projects and held key positions in the field of development of the training of doctoral students and young scientists at MU-Plovdiv.
He has been the chairman of the Asklepius Youth Scientific Society for two terms, and as the director of the Medical Simulation Training Center (MSTC) at the Research Institute of MU-Plovdiv, since its establishment in 2015, he has dedicated himself to creating an effective environment for introduction of innovative practices, for acquiring procedural competence in medical specialties and digitalization of content in support of the training for building clinical thinking.
Since 2015 he has been a member of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Society of Lung Diseases (BDBB). -
Prof. Ivo PetrovCardiology and Angiology Department Head, Acibadem City Clinic, Sofia
Prof. Dr. Ivo Petrov is Head of Cardiology and Angiology Department at Acibadem City Clinic Sofia. He has degrees in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Healthcare Management. He is experienced cardiologist with professional qualification in non-invasive and invasive cardiology. He completed post-graduate medical course in echo stress testing and intravascular echocardiography in Wiesbaden, Germany and in 1999-2000 he was awarded a fellowship to specialize in invasive cardiology and radiology in the Institute of Cardiology and Cardio-Vascular Surgery sponsored by the Favaloro Foundation in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is a member of the Board of Directors of International Society of Endovascular Specialists (ISES). He is active member of national and international scientific societies (e.g. European Society of Cardiology, American College of Cardiology, Spanish Association of Cardiology, and Latin American Association of Interventional Cardiologists). Prof. Dr. Ivo Petrov is Chairman of the Bulgarian Society for Endovascular Therapy.

Radoy PavlovEnterprise Technology Architect, University Hospital Zurich
Radoy Pavlov has lived and worked abroad for more than 20 years. He currently holds the position of Enterprise Technology Architect in one of the largest healthcare facilities in Switzerland – the University Hospital Zurich. As a member of the management team, he participated in the drawing of the future digitalization map for the development of the hospital and the 44 specialized clinics adjacent to it. The themes included in this plan are derivatives of the new reality after COVID, as well as the Swiss national health initiative “eHealth 2.0”.
Radoy is a former director, program and platform manager at UBS Bank. He has also held senior consulting positions at Infosys Consulting, Lodestone and Capco. In addition to expertise in architectural topics, he is a cloud and infrastructure specialist. Radoy is an honorary member of the DHI Cluster Bulgaria. He is a graduate of the Technical University of Berlin with a degree in computer technology. -
Vihren SlavchevFounder and CEO, Mnemonica
Vihren Slavchev is the executive director of Mnemonica and one of its founders. He has over 15 years of IT and management experience in software development, real estate and financial services and companies. In 2009, together with Pavel Yosifov, he created “Mnemonic”. Since then, together with his team, he has continued to build one of the most dynamic and successful Bulgarian IT companies. He graduated from the Technical University of Varna, majoring in Automation and Control Systems.
