“The most important thing is to train our students and specializing doctors in a modern educational environment and with the latest technologies. That is why we have built the most innovative structure of the Medical University-Plovdiv – the Medical Simulation Training Center (MSTC)”, says prof. Blagoy Marinov, Vice-Rector for Research of the Medical University of Plovdiv and Director of the Simulation Center. He is convinced that an academic community with a new vision for medical education has emerged, replacing the current paradigm of training future doctors at the patient’s bedside with a new one – accelerated development of procedural competence without compromising patient safety.
The simulation center is equipped with a range of Task Trainers to master everyday procedures and manipulations, realistic cybernetic mannequins used to train clinical thinking and develop decision-making abilities, cutting-edge virtual reality simulators in endoscopy, arthroscopy, laparoscopic, endonasal and ocular surgery, invasive cardiology, etc.
Thanks to its excellent facilities and career resources, the MSTC is a national base for continuing medical education and is certified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as an accredited educational institute. It is the only one in Eastern Europe and one of six recognized by the ACS throughout Europe.
In the last year alone, the Simulation Center has hosted more than 340 training sessions, 32 workshops with electronic standardized patients, 2 national workshops organized by the Student Council and the Association of Medical Students in Bulgaria (ACS). General practitioners specializing in general medicine are also trained here. Simulation Centre scientists also maintain their own YouTube channel in Bulgarian and English so that more students and doctors have access to quality training materials.
